What Does Code P2112 Mean?

A P2112 DTC (diagnostic troubleshooting code) will appear when the engine’s throttle actuator is not responding to the gas pedal. If the actuator is not working, the throttle itself will not open. The code signifies that the throttle actuator valve is stuck in the closed position or is slow to respond, and therefore your throttle may be slow to respond or not opening. The powertrain control module, or PCM detects this issue by coordinating the readings from your throttle position sensor with the gas pedal. If the actuator is not within the range it should be as you press the gas pedal or let it go, the system detects a malfunction.

Where is the P2112 sensor located?

The throttle actuator is located on the throttle body, which can be found if you trace the air intake system on top of the engine. It should be accessible from the top.

What are the common causes of code P2112?

  • Throttle body
  • Throttle position sensor
  • Throttle body actuator
  • Throttle body actuator’s wiring harness
  • Throttle position sensor’s wiring harness

How expensive is it to fix code P2112?

Fixing the issue can be very inexpensive, or it can be cost up to several hundred dollars depending on the cause and component to blame.

What are the symptoms of code P2112?

  • Check engine light
  • Difficulties starting the vehicle
  • Misfiring
  • Rough idle
  • General lack of power
  • Extreme lack of power
  • Unresponsive throttle
  • Stalling

How serious is code P2112?

A P2112 should be taken seriously. If the vehicle is having driving issues because of it, you may end up stranded. If the vehicle is not showing any serous signs, you may have more time, but the problem will likely only get worse.

How difficult is it to repair code P2112?

If the issue is simply a dirty throttle, a sensor, or a broken wire, you can repair the issue at home relatively easily. If the throttle needs to be replaced or the wiring harness needs to be replaced, you can expect a more intense repair.

What are the common mistakes when repairing code P2112?

You do not have to automatically replace the sensors or the entire throttle body. It may be something simple and much less expensive to fix. Take time to properly diagnose the issue to save money on the repair.

How do you troubleshoot code P2112?

The first step in properly diagnosing a P2112 is to compare any other stored or pending codes that may have come up during the scan. If they are related, you will want to pinpoint the components or wiring circuits that those codes have in common. Check those components first. Often a visual inspection will let you know if you have a broken or frayed wire or if there is obvious physical damage such as burning or melted plastic. Inspect the throttle body to make sure that it isn’t carbon fouled and causing excess resistance.
