Accessing Trouble Codes

Checking
  • Ensure ignition switched OFF.
  • Jump test connector (green, 1 pin) to ground Image 1 [1]
  • Connect LED test lamp between data link connector (DLC) terminals 1 and 2  Image 1[2]
  • Switch ignition ON
  • Count LED flashes and compare with trouble code table
  1. 1.2 second flashes indicate the ‘tens’ of the trouble code
  2. 0.4 second flashes indicate the ‘units’ of the trouble code
  3. A 1.6 second pause (MIL OFF) separates ‘TENS’ and ‘UNITS’
  4. A 0.4 second pause (MIL OFF) separates each flash
  5. A 4 second pause separates each trouble code
  • Start engine
  • Allow to idle
  • Check for further trouble codes
  • Switch ignition OFF
  • Remove jump lead and LED test lamp

Clearing Trouble Codes

  • Ensure ignition switched OFF
  • Disconnect battery ground lead
  • Depress the brake pedal for a minimum of 5 seconds
  • Reconnect battery ground lead
  • Jump test connector (green, 1 pin) to ground Image 1 [1]
  • Connect LED test lamp between DLC terminals Image 1 [2]
  • Switch ignition ON. Do not start engine
  • Wait 6 seconds
  • Start engine
  • Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature
  • Run engine at 2000 rpm for 3 minutes
  • Check that no trouble codes are displayed
  • Switch ignition OFF
  • Remove jump lead and LED tester
