General Information

  • Trouble codes can be displayed by the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with the data link connector (DLC) terminals jumped Image 1
  • Honda Passport uses a different trouble code system than other Hondas

Accessing Trouble Codes

  • Ensure ignition switched OFF
  • Jump data link connector (DLC) terminals 1 and 3 Image 1
  • Switch ignition ON.  Do NOT start engine
  • MIL should flash
  • Trouble code 12 will be displayed three times
  • Each trouble code will be displayed three times
  • If no trouble codes are stored, code 12 will continue to be displayed
  • Count MIL flashes and compare with trouble code table
    • Short flashes indicate the ‘tens’ and ‘units’ of the trouble code Image 2
    • A 0.4 second pause separates each flash.  A 1.2 second pause separates the ‘tens’ and ‘units’.  A 3.2 second pause separates each trouble code.
    • For example: Trouble code 23 displayed Image 2
  • Count MIL flashes and compare with trouble code table below
  • Switch ignition OFF
  • Remove jump lead

Clearing Trouble Codes

  • After the faults have been rectified, erase the trouble codes as follows:
  • Ensure ignition switched OFF
  • Disconnect battery ground cable for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect battery ground cable
  • Repeat accessing procedure to ensure no data remains in ECM fault memory
