Accessing Trouble Codes

Checking
  • Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature.
  • Switch ignition OFF.
  • Jump test connector (green 1 pin) to ground Image 1 [1]
  • Switch ignition ON.
  • Count MIL flashes and compare with trouble code table
  1. 1.2 second flashes indicate the ‘tens’ of the trouble code Image 2 [A]
  2. 0.4 second flashes indicate the ‘units’ of the trouble code Image 2 [D]
  3. A 1.6 second pause (MIL OFF) separates ‘TENS’ and ‘UNITS’ Image 2[C]
  4. A 0.4 second pause (MIL OFF) separates each flash Image 2 [B]
  5. A 4 second pause separates each trouble code Image 2 [E]
  6. For example: Trouble code 22 displayed Image 2

Clearing Trouble Codes

  • Ensure ignition switched OFF
  • Disconnect battery ground lead
  • Depress the brake pedal for a minimum of 5 seconds
  • Reconnect battery ground lead
  • Jump test connector (Green 1 pin) to ground Image 1 [1]
  • Switch ignition ON
  • Wait 6 seconds
  • Start engine
  • Allow engine to reach normal operating tempertature
  • Run engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes
  • Allow to idle
  • Check MIL for further trouble codes
  • Switch ignition OFF
  • Remove jump lead
  • Repeat checking procedure to ensure no data remains in ECM fault memory
