Model Year Engine identification System
Colt 1.8L 1994 4G93   Mitsubishi MPI
Colt 2.4L 1994 4G64   Mitsubishi MPI

Stealth 3.0L Turbo 1994-95 6G72   Mitsubishi MPI

General information

  • Refer to the front of this manual for general test conditions, terminology, detailed descriptions of wiring faults and a general trouble shooter for electrical and mechanical faults.
  • Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will illuminate if certain faults are recorded .
  • ECM operates in backup mode if sensors fail, to enable vehicle to be driven to repair shop.
  • Trouble codes can be displayed by the MIL or by using a Scan Tool connected to the data link connector(s) (DLC).

Accessing

  • Ensure ignition switched OFF.
  • Access 16 pin data link connector (DLC):
o Colt [1]
o Stealth [2]
  • Jump data link connector (DLC) terminal 1 and ground [3]
  • Switch ignition ON.
  • Count MIL flashes. Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.
  • Each trouble code consists of two groups [4] :
o Long flashes indicate the ‘tens’ of the trouble code [4] [A).
o Short flashes indicate the ‘units’ of the trouble code [4] [D).
o A short pause separates each trouble code group [4] [C).
o A long pause separates each trouble code [4] [E).
o For example: Trouble code 22 displayed [4] .
  • If MIL remains ON : Suspect faulty engine control module (ECM).
  • If constant short flashes are displayed, no trouble code is stored .
  • Trouble codes can also be displayed by using a Scan Tool connected to the data link connector(s) (DLC).

Erasing

NOTE: Disconnecting battery ground lead may cause driveability problems until the engine management system relearns basic values.
  • Ensure ignition switched OFF.
  • Disconnect battery ground cable for at least 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect battery ground lead.
  • Repeat checking procedure to ensure no data remains in ECM fault memory.
  • Trouble codes can also be erased by using a Scan Tool connected to the data link connector(s) (DLC).
NOTE: Disconnecting battery ground lead may erase memory from electronic units such as radio.
