In our search for diagnostic tools, we came across the InjectoClean diagnostic
kit for pocket PCs from Enginemate.com. They sent us the kit, which included
a Dell Axim X5, carrying case, cables and software.
The software they sent us was for Generic OBD2, Toyota and Ford.
We will look at the Ford software right now and will look at reviewing the
Toyota or one of their other programs later. Enginemate.com carries programs
for Honda, Toyota, GM, Ford, Chrysler and OBD2 Generic.

Once you bring up the program, you will see a menu that you
can make several choices.
- DTC for seeing what, if any trouble codes are present.
-Live Data, which is very useful for diagnosing problems.
-Clear Memory, which will see the most use, in most applications.
-Output controls, this will show what is on and off.
-View Screen Shots, this program allows you to take screen shots and save
them and then view them at a later time. Very handy.

We start out our diagnosing the problem with clearing any trouble codes
present.
We do this because there are often errant trouble codes that are not
active or not related to any problem present.
Clearing the trouble codes allows us to start fresh and test drive the
vehicle to see what trouble codes are present that are related to the
problem we are trying to diagnose.

The program will verify that the trouble codes are cleared.

The first vehicle we tested the scan program on was a 98 Ford F-350
with a 7.3L diesel.
After we test drove the vehicle, we then scan for trouble codes and
received a P0236 trouble code. Utilizing our Alldata information system,
we found the P0236 trouble code is a Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit performance
trouble code.
After a basic visual check of the intake and turbo system, we discovered
that the intake crossover tube was torn and leaking.

The second vehicle was a 96 Mercury Sable that was having an idle problem.
There were no trouble codes present, so the output controls screen was
great for us to check the idle speed, which confirmed our problem. Once
we cleaned the IAC valve and reassemble, we were able to recheck and
see that the vehicle was running properly.

Some other nice features that we found, among the list of many, was
those available on the Output screen.
This screen that shows the fan controls, along with an infared thermometer
would do extremely well in diagnosing some cooling system problems,
you would be able to tell if the signal to the fans was being sent,
regardless of whether or not the fans are coming on. Or it would show
what temps the fans were actually coming on.

The transmission output control screen is another one that we
found to be of great use. No crank problems, as well as other transmission
solenoid problems could be checked with these screens.
